Back to St Louis

Grandma passed away last night/early this morning. The graveside service and wake will be next Friday, and the church service will be on Saturday. The kids and I are taking a red eye out on Thursday night, and will head home Monday evening. Tom is staying home to take care of the dogs...Bailey is in no shape to survive a single night boarded with other dogs, let alone 4 or 5 nights.

While I'm sad, it's not overwhelming. I'm glad she's in a better place, and I'm so glad we were able to say goodbye last week. I'm glad we're able to go out again so soon for her funeral as well.

I have the plane tickets, car rental and hotel booked. The hotel has an indoor pool and free breakfast plus kitchenette, so hopefully I'll be able to wrangle the kids well in addition to not spending a ton of money. I forget how much traveling costs! $30 for a lunch in the airport for 1 adult and 2 kids...crazy!

I made these cookies Sunday/Monday. They were sooo tasty. I might make another batch of cookies tomorrow because I have a ton cream cheese frosting left. Too bad berries aren't in season! So they are expensive cookies ;-)

I need a sewing machine. Anyone have one they want to give me? I don't have the $$ to buy one especially with this second trip to St Louis. Maybe some day.

I want to plant potatoes this year, but I worry that Dexter will just dig them all up. He's a little punk like that. Maybe I'll talk my parents into planting some?

School is going okay this term but it's REALLY hard when you just don't care. Neither class this term is a neccesity. I suppose they're both helpful, but UGH. In tech. writing we only have 5 graded assigments the whole term. So if you screw one up? You're toast. In intro to business, we have 4 tests but only required to take 3, so it's a best of case. I'm hoping for solid B's in both classes...

I'm so sorry for your loss Mary, but glad that you can go to be with your family. Rooms with kitchenettes are the best! I wonder if there is a blog out there from a frequent business traveler about cooking in them. Have you asked on freecycle for a machine? If you ever want to come over here and sew you're welcome too!

I'm sorry about your Grandma. Even when you know it is best, the loss is still there. My prayers to your family and good luck on the traveling.
